NEWS FROM THE BANDROOM

CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

11th June 2010

'Summer's here and the time is right' - those immortal words which epitomise all that is good about summer holidays, parties in the park, lazy days and the like so bring it on - as they say!

The band is primed up and ready to go with the first of our fetes being this Saturday (12th June) at Addingham followed by Myrtle Park and Broughton Game Show later in the month. There is much to look forward to and enjoy and we look forward to entertaining you.

We are ably directed by a most auspicious conductor at this interim time following the recent changes of management within the band. Eventually we look forward to the permanent appointment of a new musical director who will lead and inspire the band at this time of restructuring and development.

If you wish to apply for any of our vacancies then we'd like to hear from you and you are invited to give me a call or simply visit the bandroom during its weekly rehearsal on Monday evenings at The Fleece Inn at Haworth.

Keep looking at our web-site for the latest news.

Graham Richardson

PS - are you the special conductor we seek; if yes we want to hear from you?

WELCOME TO OUR NEW PLAYERS

How nice it was to have brothers Peter and Vernon Cuff playing in the band at Myrtle Park in Bingley - welcome back Peter, lovely to see you again!

And it's good to have Phil Ward back alongside Heather Haykin; additionally we were delighted to have had Dennis Beecroft join us at Oakworth and Addingham recently putting his euphonium to good use - pity he lives so far away.

Should you be an aspiring brass-player you are welcome to apply for membership and we look forward to hearing from you. Music is for life!

Thanks for your help at Myrtle Park Bob, you were great!

YOUNG PLAYERS SOUGHT

In a new initiative to encourage younger players into the Band, the Haworth Band Planning Group are approaching local schools to attract youngsters already playing brass instruments into the band. Letters have been sent out to the parents of children playing at around Grade 4 standard or above inviting them to come along to a Band rehearsal. Each young player will have a mentor to support and encourage them. This is an exciting project which will provide an excellent musical experience for the young players who take part and will also give the Band a broader base for it's future development. The advent of our new Learners Group (see above) will allow some of our less experienced members to have the chance to rehearse and perform together.
