NEWS FROM THE BANDROOM
CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
Hello readers of our latest newsletter and visitors to our internet website; it's been a long Winter and now, at last, Spring is in the air and we continue, enthusiastically, to prepare for the commencement of our concerts and events programmes of this new 'banding' year. Haworth Band continues to promote its presence and activities in the community and seeks new players and helpers to assist in the development of the band and its objectives. If you can contribute as a musician or by simply being a 'friend' of Haworth Band then we look forward to hearing from you; you are most welcome.
Graham Richardson.

SPRING CONCERT IN HAWORTH
The Spring concert at the end of April was another success for the Band. The programme included traditional marches and tunes such as 'Scarborough Fair', combined with well-known tunes from shows such as 'West Side Story' and classical pieces of music. The soloists for the evening were Sylvia Somers (horn) and Kenny Gardner (trombone). Mezzo-soprano Christine Quirk again joined the Band to provide vocal entertainment which captivated the audience.

YOUNG PLAYERS SOUGHT
In a new initiative to encourage younger players into the Band, the Haworth Band Planning Group are approaching local schools to attract youngsters already playing brass instruments into the band. Letters will be sent out to the parents of children playing at around Grade 4 standard or above over the next few weeks inviting them to come along to a Band rehearsal. Each young player will have a mentor to support and encourage them. This is an exciting project which will provide an excellent musical experience for the young players who take part and will also give the Band a broader base for it's future development.

NEED A BRASS BAND FOR YOUR CELEBRATION?
The Band is happy to take bookings from members of the public or local groups to play at a variety of functions such as weddings, parties, or concerts. If only a small group is needed, our 'Offshoots' group of 8 players would be happy to perform. We have a huge variety of music to select from or alternatively we would try and obtain the music of your choice if it isn't in our library.
